Fear the MVP Loser

It's certainly possible that one of the MVP losers will feel slighted and turn it up a notch in the playoffs. On the other hand, say Paul or Bryant wins and the two meet in the playoffs. It's certainly possible that the award loser might spend too much time trying to show up the winner and not enough time worrying about his team winning. Of course, the NHL has the simple solution. Vote for the award at the end of the regular season, but don't announce the winner (along with several other award winners) until after the playoffs. Of course, the NHL generally gets things right here by naming their awards to honor some of the games great. Why not the George Mikan award rather than the NBA MVP.
