Now that he has retired -- where would you rank Brett Favre among the all time greatest quarterbacks?
Here is my top 12 (with their current place in parentheses):
01. Roger Staubach (3)
02. Joe Montana (1)
03. Tom Brady (5)
04. Brett Favre (6)
05. Johnny Unitas (4)
06. Bart Starr (
07. Otto Graham (13)
08. Peyton Manning (2)
09. Steve Young (11)
10. Dan Marino (14)
11. John Elway (10)
12. Terry Bradshaw (7) |

I have to rank Favre a little lower than you did, Mark. Although I haven't formally ranked my top 12, I think a lot of Favre's numbers were due to longevity. Favre only made two Super Bowls and only won one. When you compare that with others such as Montana, Young, Elway, Staubach, Brady and Bradshaw, it's hard to argue that Favre is that high. (Plus you've got QB's who were primarily in the pre Super Bowl era such as Starr and Graham.)
On the other hand, when you just look at sheer numbers, it took him 400 more throws than Marino to get 300 more yards. Although he had 22 more TD's, he also had 36 more INT's than Marino. If/when I formally rank the QB's, I'll probably have Favre in the top 10, but definitely in the bottom half of the top 10. _________________ -Andy |
